What Gear Muster keeps

The carriage check keeps nothing: your answers travel in the page address and are not stored.

A muster board keeps what you type into it (board name, boat names, the check answers and the two dates) under its private code, until you delete it or nobody opens it for 400 days. Database backups taken nightly and when the site is updated hold copies for a limited time.

No name, email, phone or location is asked for. To limit abuse, the number of new boards per day is counted against a salted hash of your network address, deleted after two days. The site uses a session cookie and a security token cookie for its forms. It sets no tracking or advertising cookies and uses no analytics services. The only outside script any page loads is the adengine.us banner on the public pages, described under Advertising; it also counts one page view per page as a daily total.

Advertising

The home page, the carriage check, the rules and sources page and the pricing page show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. Muster boards, boats, trip musters and Muster Cards, the page that opens a board, this page and the terms show no ad.

To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your IP address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests. It is told the site, not the page: the answers in a carriage-check address stay here.
